About Blame!
Blame! adapts Tsutomu Nihei's manga about Killy searching the endless Megastructure for a human with the Net Terminal Gene. Early short clips from 2003 tested the look without telling a full story. The main anime is the Polygon Pictures film released May 20, 2017 on Netflix and in Japanese theaters, running 106 minutes.
The film follows villagers from a small settlement rather than retelling the full ten volume manga from 1997 to 2003. Knights of Sidonia even teases Killy on TV in season 2 as a nod. No sequel film has been announced, so the manga remains the complete story.
Good to know
Watch the 2017 film first since the 2003 shorts are visual tests without plot. Then read the manga volumes 1 to 10 for the full Safeguard war and Toha Heavy Industries arc. The film simplifies Cibo and Zuru to fit two hours, so expect missing lore. The shorts run under ten minutes total and work as extras after, not as an entry point.
