About Silent Night, Deadly Night
Silent Night, Deadly Night opened November 9, 1984 about orphan Billy Chapman becoming a killer Santa, sparking protests over its marketing. Part 2 followed April 10, 1987 with brother Ricky and heavy flashbacks, famous for the Garbage Day line. Part 3 Better Watch Out arrived in 1989 with Ricky in a coma.
Part 4 Initiation in 1990 and Part 5 The Toy Maker in 1991 are standalone witch and toy stories. Silent Night in 2012 remade the setup with Jaime King, and a new Silent Night, Deadly Night opened December 12, 2025. Release order tracks the Chapman arc best.
Good to know
Watch 1 to 3 for the Chapman brothers story, then treat 4 and 5 as separate tales that only share Christmas horror. The 2012 and 2025 films reboot Billy from scratch and can be watched alone. Parts 4 and 5 run straight to video with lower budgets. Allow for tonal jumps since directors changed every entry from Sellier to Hellman to Yuzna.
