About Battle Athletes
Battle Athletes from AIC starts as a six episode OVA from May 1997 to June 1998 about Akari Kanzaki training at University Satellite to win Cosmo Beauty like her mother. Battle Athletes Victory ran 26 episodes from October 1997 to March 1998 on TV Tokyo as an alternate retelling with the same goal but different rivals and tone.
The franchise returned with Battle Athletes Victory Restart in 2021, twelve episodes from studio Seven that reboot the setup again. Release order mixes two retellings, so new viewers should pick one path. No sequel to Restart has been announced.
Good to know
Watch the OVA first for the tighter and kinder version, then Victory if you want the longer TV take with more races. Restart stands alone with new designs and can be watched without either older show. The Sega Saturn games and the four volume manga are side material. Victory is darker in later episodes, so expect a tone shift after the training arcs.
