About Brand New Animal
Brand New Animal follows Michiru Kagemori, a human girl turned tanuki beastman who flees to Anima City seeking a cure. She teams with wolfman detective Shirou Ogami to investigate disappearances tied to a cult and a new drug. Studio Trigger produced twelve episodes in 2020.
Early episodes establish Anima City rules and the baseball rivalry that teaches Michiru to control her shifting. Middle chapters introduce the church plot and Nazuna's idol turn. Later episodes reveal the mayor's plan and force Michiru to choose between human and beast futures. The mystery plants symbols early that only make sense in sequence.
Good to know
Watch episodes one through twelve in order. The conspiracy builds through background posters and side comments that pay off late. There is no film or OVA to slot elsewhere, since the series tells a closed story. Starting mid-run would spoil who funds the cult and why Shirou trusts Michiru with the city secret.
