About Date A Live
Date A Live follows Shido Itsuka sealing Spirit powers by dating the Spirits who cause spacequakes, from Tohka and Origami through Kurumi and later threats. Five TV seasons aired from 2013 to 2024 across changing studios, with the Mayuri Judgement film set after season 2 and Date A Bullet showing Kurumi side story in the Neighboring World.
Release order matches story order with no prequels to reorder. Watch seasons 1 and 2, then the film, then seasons 3 through 5 for the straight run. Date A Bullet fits after season 3 as a detour, since it leaves Shido aside to follow Kurumi and White Queen.
Good to know
Watch in release order since each season adds Spirits in turn and assumes prior seals. The film is canon and introduces Mayuri, so do not skip it between seasons 2 and 3. Date A Bullet works as an optional break rather than a start, because it spoils Kurumi arc. The light novels ended while anime remains open, so treat season 5 as the latest chapter rather than a planned finale.
