About Katsuhiro Otomo

Katsuhiro Otomo directed Akira in 1988 about Tetsuo bursting Neo Tokyo. Memories followed in 1995 anthologizing Cannon Fodder and Stink Bomb tales. Steamboy arrived in 2004 boiling Victorian science wars.

The films share cities bursting and boys flying but no plots link at all. Each runs dense and drawn on purpose. Release order shows his manga pen learning the camera without losing the ink heat. The bike skids and steam valves carry every burst with ink lines. The burst veins and steam gears fill every frame with ink.

Good to know

Watch oldest to newest since each city resets its boys. Akira first sets the burst base for the run and needs full focus. Memories breaks the run as anthology. Steamboy closes as the steam peak. No next feature has a date yet, so Steamboy stays last until one lands. The festival love confirms the burst, so give Akira full attention.
