About Made in Abyss
Made in Abyss follows Riko and the robot Reg descending a layered pit where each depth brings a worse curse. The manga is written and drawn by Akihito Tsukushi and has run on Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma since October 2012, with 15 collected volumes as of August 2026. Season 1 aired thirteen episodes in 2017. Dawn of the Deep Soul from January 2020 is required viewing, since it adapts the Ido Front arc with Bondrewd and Prushka between the seasons. Season 2, The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, ran twelve episodes in 2022.
Two 2019 films, Journey's Dawn and Wandering Twilight, only recap season 1 and can be skipped after the episodes. Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery opened in Japanese theaters on October 23, 2026 as the first part of a new film series, not a confirmed trilogy. Mariya Ise, Miyu Tomita, Shiori Izawa and Misaki Kuno return, and Kinema Citrus is animating again.
The series is one continuous descent, so there is no separate chronological order. Watch the TV seasons and the bridge film in release order and the story stays in sequence.
Good to know
Watch season 1, then Dawn of the Deep Soul, then season 2. Skipping the middle film breaks the story, since Prushka's White Whistle carries straight into season 2. The 2019 recap films compress season 1 into about three quarters of the time, so use them only as a refresher.
Awakening Mystery continues after season 2, with Riko, Reg, Nanachi and Faputa heading for the seventh layer. It is in Japanese theaters now and has no international release date yet, so the guide stays in release order and the film stays last.
The shorts Marulk's Daily Life are optional extras. The 2022 Spike Chunsoft game retells the early story and is not part of the anime order.
