About Mari Okada
Mari Okada, known for writing Anohana and Maquia, directed three original anime films from 2018 to 2024. Maquia When the Promised Flower Blooms follows immortal weaver Maquia raising mortal Ariel. Her Blue Sky sends Aoi across time to her sister Akane's youth in Chichibu. Fureru reunites three friends through a creature that binds feelings.
Watch Maquia first, then Her Blue Sky, then Fureru, since each film stands alone and release order tracks her growing directing craft. All three share P.A. Works roots and Super Peace Busters themes of grief and growing up. No shared continuity links them, so order by release for the cleanest experience.
Good to know
Release order works best because the three films share themes but no plot links. Maquia runs 115 minutes and sets her maternal melodrama peak. Her Blue Sky runs 108 minutes with a time slip romance in the same Chichibu hills as Anohana. Fureru runs 107 minutes and closes the youth trio run. Watch all three in Japanese with subtitles where possible, since song cues carry key scenes.
