About Tenchi Muyo
Tenchi Muyo starts with the 1992 OVA about Tenchi, Ryoko, Ayeka and Sasami at the Masaki house. Tenchi Universe from 1995 retells the setup for TV with Kiyone added, while Tenchi in Tokyo from 1997 moves Tenchi to the city with Sakuya as a new lead.
Later OVA seasons from 2003 to 2020 continue the original OVA line with Seina side stories in GXP. The films in Love 1 and 2 fit the Universe line. Each line resets relationships, so finishing one Tenchi before starting the next keeps reveals straight.
Good to know
Start with the 1992 OVA for the core canon, then take Universe as an alternate retelling. Tokyo fits last among the 1990s runs since it assumes the harem setup. GXP and later OVAs need OVA knowledge first. No new Tenchi TV run had been dated as of September 2026, so the OVA line stands as the main path.
