About The Big O
The Big O from Sunrise follows Roger Smith, a negotiator in Paradigm City who pilots the megadeus Big O with android Dorothy. Season 1 ran 13 episodes from October 13, 1999 to January 19, 2000 on WOWOW and was cut short by low ratings in Japan. International support led Cartoon Network to co fund season 2.
Season 2 ran 13 episodes from January 2 to March 27, 2003 on Sun TV and aired on Adult Swim that August. The two seasons make one continuous mystery about the Event that erased memories forty years earlier. No third season has been produced despite fan campaigns.
Good to know
Watch season 1 then season 2 with no films or OVAs in between. The manga ran two volumes from 2002 to 2003 as a side story and is optional. Season 1 plays as noir cases of the week while season 2 turns serial and abstract, so expect a pace change. The English dub on Adult Swim matches the Japanese order exactly.
