About The Powerpuff Girls
Craig McCracken's original series ran 78 episodes over six seasons from 1998 to 2005. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup defend Townsville from Mojo Jojo, Him and a long roster of villains while still attending kindergarten.
Release order is the recommended path: the 2002 film is an origin prequel that plays best once you know the characters. The 2016 reboot is a separate run with a new voice cast and lighter tone, so it works as an optional follow-up.
Good to know
The CW filmed a live-action pilot in 2021 with Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault as adult versions of the trio. The pilot was not picked up and the project was scrapped in 2023, so it is confirmed dead; leaked footage surfaced in March 2025 and CW sources confirmed it was real. An animated reboot developed by McCracken at Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe was announced July 18, 2022 with no release date attached. The anime spinoff Powerpuff Girls Z (2006 to 2007) is a separate Japanese continuity and optional.
