About Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic animation splits into separate continuities. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog ran 65 episodes in late 1993 as pure comedy with Sonic Says PSAs, while SatAM ran 26 episodes across 1993 and 1994 as a darker quest. Underground ran 40 episodes in 1999 with a musical format and an unresolved cliffhanger. Sonic X ran 78 episodes from 2003 to 2006 as an anime with a Metarex second run.
Sonic Boom ran 104 eleven minute parts from 2014 to 2017 as standalone comedy, and Sonic Prime ran 23 episodes from 2022 to 2024 as a multiverse story. Knuckles from April 2024 is a six part live action hybrid set between films 2 and 3. No new animated series had a date as of September 2026, with Sonic 4 dated 2027 as the next screen entry.
Good to know
There is no single timeline to preserve, so watch in premiere order or pick by tone. SatAM and Underground reward order inside their runs, while Adventures, Boom and X work sampled. Underground ends without resolving its quest, so expect that gap. X has 4Kids dub edits that soften the Japanese version, and Boom ignores game canon on purpose. Prime assumes basic Sonic lore but explains its Shatterverse as it goes.
