About Blue Dragon
Blue Dragon pairs Hironobu Sakaguchi's story with Akira Toriyama designs and Nobuo Uematsu music. The 2006 Xbox 360 original spans three discs as Shu, Kluke and Jiro learn shadow powers against Nene. Blue Dragon Plus from 2008 moves the cast to DS real time strategy one year later.
Awakened Shadow from 2009 on DS lets players build their own character in the same world with action combat. Mistwalker and Artoon led development with Microsoft publishing. The plots connect directly, so later games assume Shu's party and the shadow system from the original.
Good to know
Play the 2006 original before Plus and Awakened Shadow, since mechanics and returning villains build on it. Shu's party carries forward, so the later games assume that bond. Plus shifts genre to strategy, so expect a systems break after the turn based epic. The anime retells the story separately and is optional. No fourth game has been announced.
