About Chocobo
Chocobo starts with Chocobo's Dungeon in 1997 on PlayStation, a roguelike with job hats. Chocobo's Dungeon 2 followed in 1998 with partner monsters, and Chocobo Racing in 1999 brought kart play.
Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy arrived in 2019 retelling the first story, and Chocobo GP followed in 2022. Play the Dungeon originals first, then Racing, then the modern pair. The job and buddy systems build across entries while each game stands alone. Job hats and partner monsters carry the dungeon runs.
Good to know
Play in release order. Every Buddy retells the 1997 game, so treat it as a replacement rather than a sequel. Chocobo World on PocketStation sits as a curio outside the list. No new entry had been announced as of October 2026, with GP from 2022 the latest. Racing sits between the dungeon runs. Start with the 1997 original.
