About Digital Devil
Digital Devil Saga follows Serph and the Embryon tribe in the Junkyard, a war zone where tribes fight for ascent to Nirvana after a black sun event grants Atma power. The 2004 original sets tribe warfare, mantra grids, devour skills and press turn battles, with Sera as a mysterious girl who can calm demon forms and temple rules from the Karma Church guiding each fight.
Avatar Tuner 2 arrived in 2005 and moves the survivors into a ruined real world of hospitals, Karma Society labs and solar rage, continuing directly from the first ending with returning party members and expanded hunter skills. Atlus built both entries for PlayStation 2 with shared systems and voice cast, so play in release order to keep mantra growth, plot reveals and the Sera mystery in intended sequence.
Good to know
Play in release order. The two games form one story split into halves, so release order matches plot order and the second assumes the first ending with Sera held by the Embryon. Carry knowledge of mantra grids, Atma points and devour tactics forward, since encounters expect prior mastery. No third entry has appeared since 2005 and no remake has been dated, so the pair stands complete on PlayStation 2 with later digital ports.
