About Grandia
Grandia is Game Arts' adventure-spirited RPG line: Justin's journey to the end of the world in the 1997 Saturn original, Ryudo's mercenary redemption in Grandia II (2000), and Yuki's flight-obsessed quest in Grandia III (2005). The IP gauge combat rewards interrupting enemies and remains the series' signature.
Each game stands alone with a new cast, so start with the original or the Dreamcast-perfected II. Xtreme (2002) is a dungeon-crawling side story for systems fans. The HD Collection (2019) bundles the first two with widescreen support and is the version to buy. The series ends at III for now, with no new entry announced.
Good to know
The Saturn original versus PlayStation port debate is settled by the HD Collection, which supersedes both. Grandia II's Dreamcast version is the reference, with later ports varying in extras. Xtreme drops the adventure tone for pure dungeon runs, so story-first players can skip it. Parallel Trippers on Game Boy Color stayed Japan-only. GungHo's stewardship has produced ports, not sequels, since the acquisition.
