About Intelligent Systems

Intelligent Systems grew from Nintendo R and D1 and launched the Wars tactics series with Famicom Wars on August 12, 1988 for Famicom, then Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light in 1990. Advance Wars brought the formula west on September 10, 2001 for Game Boy Advance.

Fire Emblem Awakening revived the series on April 19, 2012 for 3DS, followed by Paper Mario: Sticker Star in 2012 and Fire Emblem Fates on June 25, 2015 in Japan. Fire Emblem: Three Houses arrived July 26, 2019 for Switch with Koei Tecmo as co-developer, Paper Mario: The Origami King followed July 17, 2020, and Fire Emblem Engage closed the list January 20, 2023. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave arrived September 17, 2026 as a Switch 2 exclusive, following four heroes through the Heroic Games tournament.

Good to know

Release order is play order here. Wars and Fire Emblem share tactics DNA but not story, so year order works. Paper Mario: Sticker Star and The Origami King are separate Mario RPGs you can play any time after Awakening. Three Houses was co-developed with Koei Tecmo, and Fates spans Birthright, Conquest and Revelation as one 2015 entry. Fortune's Weave is a standalone Switch 2 story, so play it after Engage.
