About Picross
Picross is Nintendo's nonogram puzzle line developed with Jupiter, running from Mario's Picross on Game Boy in 1995 to the Switch Picross S era. The handheld entries teach the logic in order, with Picross DS reviving the series internationally and the two Picross 3D games adding cube carving from HAL Laboratory.
Play in release order. Mechanics stack across games, from Mega Picross to Clip and Color modes, so later collections assume the earlier tricks. The 2015 Pokemon and 2016 Zelda Twilight Princess spinoffs slot between the 3D games and the modern S line as palate cleansers.
Good to know
Release order is the recommended order because each game adds modes the next one keeps. Picross S from 2017 starts the modern formula on Switch, with S3 adding Color Picross and S9 standing as the latest numbered entry. Jupiter announced the Picross S Climax compilation for December 2026 in Japan, tracked separately as an upcoming item.
