About Shadow Tower

Shadow Tower from June 25, 1998 on PlayStation drops you in Holy Land Zeptar on continent Eclipse with stat growth by use rather than levels. FromSoftware published it, reaching North America November 23, 1999 via Agetec. Shadow Tower Abyss from October 23, 2003 on PS2 continues in dungeons with breakable body parts and analog controls.

Abyss stayed Japan-only after Sony cancelled the Agetec English version, with a fan translation in 2011. Both share King's Field DNA that later fed Demon's Souls. No third entry has been announced. The two form a closed duology.

Good to know

Release order matches the mechanical learning curve, since Abyss assumes you know stat-by-use. Abyss is Japan-only officially, so most players need the fan patch or Japanese copy. Do not expect Miyazaki-era checkpoints, since these are harsher Zin-era crawlers. With FromSoftware moved to Souls and Elden Ring, these remain finished curios rather than an ongoing line.
