About Story of Seasons
Story of Seasons began as Harvest Moon in 1996 and has defined cozy farming sims ever since: inherit a farm, befriend a town, marry somebody, and optimize crop seasons. The Marvelous series kept the formula while the Harvest Moon name went to different games after 2014, which is the naming trap every newcomer hits.
This guide follows the Marvelous line only: the classics through Friends of Mineral Town, A Wonderful Life, the DS era, then the Story of Seasons era from 2014 with the Olive Town and remake entries. Each game is standalone, so start with the remake of Mineral Town or A Wonderful Life. Release order shows the formula refining from punishing stamina bars to generous modern comfort.
Good to know
The name split is the essential warning: post-2014 games called Harvest Moon are not this series, while Story of Seasons is. Friends of Mineral Town (2019) and A Wonderful Life (2023) are full remakes and the recommended entry points. Rune Factory is the same developer's fantasy spin-off with its own guide. The Doraemon crossovers are charming side entries for fans of both. Multiplayer generations like the Switch entries keep the single-player core.
