About Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal started in 1995 on PlayStation with Calypso granting wishes through car combat. Part 2 in 1996 is the classic entry. Parts 3 and 4 from 989 Studios in 1998 and 1999 continue the tournament with new drivers.
Black in 2001 reboots darker, Small Brawl the same year goes kid friendly with RC cars, and Head-On in 2005 returns on PSP with a 2008 PS2 port. The 2012 reboot on PS3 tells three arcs around Sweet Tooth, Mr Grimm and Dollface. No new game has released since 2012, while the Peacock TV show runs separately.
Good to know
There is no story order for Twisted Metal. Black and 2012 each reboot the wish tournament, so playing in release order shows each reset as intended. Small Brawl and Black Online are side pieces you can skip. The TV series from 2023 shares characters but not game canon, so it sits outside this list. Stick to the eight games here.
