About Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice began with Tim Burton's 1988 film about the Maitlands hiring bio-exorcist Betelgeuse against the Deetz family. The animated series ran four seasons from 1989 to 1991 with Beetlejuice befriending Lydia in the Neitherworld. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) from Burton reunited Keaton, Ryder and O'Hara with Jenna Ortega as Astrid, grossing near $300 million.
The 2024 sequel sets up Lydia's daughter and the Neitherworld bureaucracy for more, though no third film has been dated. The Broadway musical from 2019 retells the original in its own continuity with new songs.
Good to know
Watch the 1988 film first, then the 2024 sequel, since the Deetz family history and the handbook rules assume the original. The animated series shares names only with a friendlier Beetlejuice, safe as an extra after the films. Saying the name three times stays a joke here, but the sequel rewards remembering exactly who married whom the first time.
