About Bela Tarr
Bela Tarr started with Family Nest in 1977, The Outsider in 1981 and The Prefab People in 1982, shot in social realist style in Budapest flats. Almanac of Fall arrived in 1984 and Damnation in 1988 with longer takes and rain streets.
Satantango came in 1994 at seven hours about a farm collapse, then Werckmeister Harmonies in 2000 about a whale visit, The Man from London in 2007 and The Turin Horse in 2011 about a horse refusal. Tarr retired after Turin Horse. Watch in release order, since the shot length grows film to film.
Good to know
These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. Satantango needs two sittings and plays best after Damnation for the long walk payoff. The Turin Horse closes the run as stated final film with Gusztav narration. Start with Damnation or Werckmeister if nine films feels like too many.
