About Brady Corbet
Corbet left acting in 2014 and directed his first feature with writing partner Mona Fastvold. The Childhood of a Leader premiered at Venice in 2015, a cold study of a boy in 1918 France whose tantrums point toward the fascism to come. Vox Lux followed in 2018, with Natalie Portman as a pop star shaped by early trauma, school violence and comeback tours.
The Brutalist arrived in 2024 and became his breakthrough, with Adrien Brody as architect Laszlo Toth rebuilding a life in America after the war. It won Corbet the Silver Lion, the BAFTA and the Golden Globe for best director, plus three Oscar nominations. Watch the three in release order. Each story is self contained, and the sequence shows his scale and confidence growing film by film.
Good to know
These three tell separate stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to work out. Release order is the recommendation because each film expands tools from the last. The Childhood of a Leader sometimes carries a 2016 date from its US release, but 2015 marks its Venice premiere. Corbet remains active, so expect a fourth feature to extend this list.
