About Derek Jarman

Derek Jarman directed Sebastiane in 1976 and Jubilee in 1978, then The Tempest in 1979 and The Angelic Conversation in 1985.

Caravaggio arrived in 1986, The Last of England in 1987, War Requiem in 1989, The Garden in 1990, Edward II in 1991, Wittgenstein in 1993 and Blue in 1993. Watch in release order. The painter's eye carries through every budget, with the late films narrowing to voice and color. Tilda Swinton debuts here and returns throughout. The Super 8 shorts feed the features. The Garden pairs with Last of England.

Good to know

There is no shared continuity, so no chronological order exists. Jubilee, Caravaggio, Edward II and Blue make the clearest core. The run closed with Blue and Wittgenstein in 1993, a year before Jarman's death in 1994. Blue plays over a single blue frame. Start with Caravaggio. Start with Caravaggio for the painterly peak.
