About Gremlins
Gremlins began with Joe Dante's 1984 film about Gizmo spawning chaos in Kingston Falls under three rules. The New Batch (1990) moves the mayhem to a New York tower with lab-born test subjects. The animated series Secrets of the Mogwai premiered in 2023 on Max as a 1920s Shanghai prequel with young Sam Wing meeting Gizmo first.
Warner Bros. has discussed a third film for years with no date, while the animated series earned a second season renewal. The series fits before the films as Gizmo's origin, though it was made decades later with a new voice cast.
Good to know
Watch the two films first in release order, since the rules and the Clamp tower jokes assume the original. Then watch Secrets of the Mogwai as a prequel flashback, which reframes Mr. Wing's shop scenes retroactively. A third film would slot after the New Batch, so keep that spot open rather than treating the cartoon as the finale.
