About Halloween
John Carpenter's Halloween opened October 25, 1978 and made Michael Myers. The sequels then split into branches: parts 4, 5 and 6 form the Thorn run, H20 and Resurrection keep only the first two films, Rob Zombie remade the original twice in 2007 and 2009, and the David Gordon Green trilogy keeps 1978 alone with Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween Ends (October 14, 2022).
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) has no Michael in it at all. It was meant to start an anthology strand, so it can go anywhere. Nothing has been released since Ends, though Miramax has had a resetting TV series in development since October 2023.
Good to know
No single timeline covers all thirteen. The original continuity runs 1978, 1981, 4, 5, 6. The H20 branch keeps 1978 and 1981 then jumps to 1998. The 2018 trilogy keeps 1978 only. Release order is the recommendation because it is the one complete list, but if you want a story that actually ends, take one branch and stop.
