About Joe Wright

Joe Wright broke through with Pride and Prejudice (2005), a restless Keira Knightley led take on Austen that earned four Oscar nominations. He followed it with Atonement (2007), The Soloist (2009), Hanna (2011) and Anna Karenina (2012), moving between literary romance, real life drama and a sharp action thriller without losing his tracking shot energy.

The later run pairs the Churchill drama Darkest Hour (2017), which won Gary Oldman the Best Actor Oscar, with two 2021 releases, the thriller The Woman in the Window and the musical Cyrano. Each film stands alone, so release order works as a tour of his changing scale, from country house intimacy to stage style spectacle.

Good to know

These films share no characters or timeline, so there is no chronological reorder to work out. Watch in release order and skip around by mood, since Hanna and Darkest Hour play very differently from the Austen and Tolstoy adaptations. Pan (2015), his Peter Pan origin film, is left out here as a studio outlier most new viewers can save for last.
