About Kim Ki-duk
Kim Ki-duk debuted with Crocodile in 1996 about riverside outcasts, then The Isle in 2000 and Bad Guy in 2001 set harsh romances with little dialogue. These early works use lakes and streets for power and guilt with stark images.
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring in 2003 about a floating temple softened his tone, while 3-Iron in 2004 and Pieta in 2012 won festival prizes. Dissolve in 2019 is the final credit after his death in 2020, closing a run of 24 features. The run stays bleak but humane, with silence doing more than speeches.
Good to know
There is no shared story to reorder since films stand alone with new casts each time. Watch Spring Summer first for a gentle entry, then try 3-Iron before the tougher Isle. Treat the run as complete with Dissolve as the endpoint, since no new works can follow. Expect little dialogue and long takes that reward patience.
