About Maniac Cop
Maniac Cop from 1988 opens with a uniformed killer on New York streets, framing Bruce Campbell's officer while Tom Atkins hunts the truth. Writer Larry Cohen and director William Lustig built it as a straight slasher with a police panic hook. Maniac Cop 2 from 1990 brings back Matt Cordell from the grave after criminals who killed him.
Maniac Cop 3 Badge of Silence from 1993 resurrects Cordell once more through a priest, with a wounded officer caught between. The series ran theatrically then on video, and Lustig never made a fourth. Release order is the story order, since Cordell dies and returns in sequence.
