About Saw
Ten Saw films were released between 2004 and 2023, and release order is the recommended first watch. The early run (I through 3D) tells one connected story of John Kramer, Amanda and Hoffman, while Jigsaw, Spiral and Saw X branch off it. Twists in later films assume you saw the earlier ones.
Story order differs in three places: Saw X sits between Saw and Saw II, Jigsaw's main game is one of Kramer's earliest traps with framing scenes set near the end, and Spiral is a copycat coda. Both lists are below so you can compare.
Good to know
Saw XI was dated for September 26, 2025, then pulled from Lionsgate's calendar in March 2025 after producer disagreements stalled it. In June 2025 Blumhouse bought Twisted Pictures' stake in the rights, with Lionsgate keeping its half. No new Saw film has been announced as of this check.
