About Takashi Miike
Takashi Miike has directed over one hundred films, videos and TV productions since the early 1990s, so this guide picks thirteen key theatrical features as a starting path. Audition (1999) and Dead or Alive (1999) made his festival name, then Visitor Q, Ichi the Killer and The Happiness of the Katakuris all landed in 2001 and fixed his cult image. Gozu (2003) and Zebraman (2004) show the weirder and lighter sides.
13 Assassins (2010) and Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) brought samurai craft and wider acclaim, while As the Gods Will (2014), Blade of the Immortal (2017), First Love (2019) and Lumberjack the Monster (2023) keep the late run representative. Watch in release order. The films do not connect, and the sequence maps his swing between horror, crime and family fare.
Good to know
Miike has far more than thirteen films, so treat this as a curated entry path rather than a complete filmography. The entries are standalone with no shared continuity, which is why release order is the only list here. Newer work such as Sham (2025) and the dated Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo (2026) falls outside this starter pick. Add titles once you know which Miike mode you like best.
