About That Darn Cat
That Darn Cat! (1965) stars Hayley Mills and Dean Jones from Gordon Gordon novel Undercover Cat, following bank robbers and a kidnapped maid through DC collar clue. Directed by Robert Stevenson, it ran 116 minutes and kept Hayley Mills central to Disney comedy.
That Darn Cat (1997) remakes the story with Christina Ricci as Patti and Doug E Doug as Agent Zeke Kelso, directed by Bob Spiers in South Carolina. Dean Jones cameos as a new character, linking the versions. Watch the 1965 film first for the full mystery, then the 1997 version as a shorter companion with the same beats.
Good to know
Release order is story order since the 1997 film retells the 1965 plot rather than continuing it. Start with the 1965 original for complete kidnapping setup and Sherman Brothers title song. The 1997 remake runs 86 minutes and trims subplots, so treat it as an optional second viewing. No third Cat film is planned, so this pair is complete.
