About Troll
Troll (1986) is Empire Pictures' apartment-building horror with a young Julia Louis-Dreyfus and practical creature charm. Troll 2 (1990) shares only the name: an unrelated Italian production about vegetarian goblins in Nilbog, legendarily inept and beloved as the best worst movie ever made.
The third film, released as Contamination .7, Troll 3 and Catacombs depending on market, is another unrelated Italian horror wearing the brand. Watch in release order for the full descent from competent to mythic. The Best Worst Movie documentary (2009) about Troll 2's fandom is essential companion viewing.
Good to know
None of the three films connect: the titles are pure marketing, with Troll 2 famously containing no trolls. The documentary explains how Nilbog happened and is often better than the films.
