About The Volunteers
The Volunteers follows Chinese volunteer units in the Korean War across a planned trilogy from Chen Kaige. The first film from 2023 sets the entry decision and early battles. It introduces the command and family stakes.
The second film from 2024 continues the campaign with new fronts, while the third from 2025 closes the arc. No further film has been dated, so the trilogy is the full run. Watch all three in release order, since orders and losses carry straight across. The battles stand alone for scale, but command bonds and losses grow with each film in the trilogy.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order, since the trilogy covers the war in sequence with no prequel jumps. Each film assumes the prior battles and who was lost. The finale only lands after the first two entries. Start at the 2023 film for the full volunteer arc and command chain. The finale only lands after the first two entries, so keep the trilogy together in sequence.
