About Call the Midwife
Call the Midwife follows Nonnatus House midwives in Poplar with Jenny Lee at the start. Series 1 from 2012 sets Chummy, Trixie and Sister Julienne in the late 1950s. Later series move into the 1960s with Barbara, Lucille and Nancy joining as others leave.
Series 12 to 15 run into 2023 to 2026 with the 1970s shift and new pupil sets. Christmas specials fit in broadcast spots each year. The show stays open with BBC renewals, so broadcast order keeps each nurse arrival and time jump clear without a finale to aim for.
Good to know
Watch in broadcast order to track the decade move and staff exits. Births can be sampled, but Trixie and Sister Julienne arcs span years of service. Christmas specials assume the series before them, so keep them in place. New series keep getting ordered, so treat the show as open as of September 2026.
