About Cobra Kai
Cobra Kai picks up more than 30 years after the 1984 All Valley tournament, with Johnny Lawrence reopening his dojo and Daniel LaRusso pulled back into the rivalry. You only need the three original Macchio films first: The Karate Kid (1984), Part II (1986) and Part III (1989).
Cobra Kai ran six seasons (2018 to 2025), moving from YouTube to Netflix, and closed with a 15-episode final season. Karate Kid: Legends (May 30 2025) follows three years later, teaming Daniel with Jackie Chan's Mr. Han to train a new student, Li Fong.
Good to know
The Next Karate Kid (1994) and the 2010 remake are not required before Cobra Kai; Legends retroactively ties the 2010 film into the same universe through Mr. Han. Watch everything in release order throughout: Cobra Kai assumes the original trilogy and nothing else.
