About John from Cincinnati
John from Cincinnati follows the Yost surfing clan in Imperial Beach as drifter John arrives with no past and impossible gifts. Mitch, Cissy and Butchie Yost face debts, injuries and faith while John repeats numbers and heals birds. David Milch created ten episodes for HBO in 2007.
Early episodes establish the surf shop, the heroin debts and John's blank stare. Middle chapters add the casino fight, the hospital levitation and the rival Wheeler family. Later episodes stage the ocean miracle and the family choice that closes the run. The miracles escalate deliberately, so skipping ahead hides how the town stops doubting.
Good to know
Watch episodes one through ten in order. The show is a slow mystery where background dialogue pays off episodes later. There is no alternate order, since healings only happen after introductions. New viewers should expect an abrupt end due to cancellation rather than a planned finale, but the ten episodes form a complete parable.
