About Orange Is the New Black
Orange Is the New Black premiered on Netflix in July 2013 from creator Jenji Kohan. It opens on Piper Chapman serving time at Litchfield, then widens into an ensemble covering Taystee, Red, Nicky, Pennsatucky and Daya across shifting prison politics. Season five stages the riot in real time, season six moves survivors to max, and season seven closes with releases, deportations and transfers.
The show ran 91 episodes through July 2019 as one of Netflix's longest originals. Kohan ended it by choice with the cast dispersing, and no spinoff has been ordered, leaving the finale as the planned close.
Good to know
Watch one through seven in order, since deaths and transfers in later seasons assume full history. The riot season covers only days across thirteen episodes, so keep momentum through it rather than pausing mid-season. Flashback episodes explain each inmate's crime, and they land best inside broadcast order instead of grouped together afterward.
