About Poldark
Poldark ran on BBC One from March 2015 to August 2019 with Aidan Turner as Ross. Series 1 runs 8 episodes, series 2 runs 10, series 3 runs 9, and series 4 and 5 run 8 each for 43 parts of about 60 minutes. The story starts in Cornwall in 1783 and moves forward through mining, war and parliament.
The run adapts the first seven Winston Graham novels, then series 5 jumps forward with an original story beyond the books. The 1975 to 1977 BBC version is a separate adaptation and stays optional. No new Poldark run had an announcement as of September 2026, so the 2019 close stays final.
Good to know
Watch series 1 through 5 straight through, since debts, trials and marriages carry across years. The time jump into series 5 can feel abrupt, because it leaves the novels behind by design. The 1970s version covers similar ground with a different cast, so treat it as an alternate rather than a prequel. Each series is self paced at an hour per part, so plan for the longer middle runs.
