The Hot Zone adapts Richard Preston book about heroic scientists facing outbreaks. Season 1 aired May 27 to 29, 2019 as six episodes on National Geographic with Julianna Margulies as Nancy Jaax on the Reston Ebola scare. Season 2 titled Anthrax aired November 28 to 30, 2021 as six episodes with Daniel Dae Kim and Tony Goldwyn on the 2001 mail attacks.
Nat Geo turned the miniseries into an anthology after strong ratings, with Ridley Scott producing. The runs share disease procedural method but reset year, virus and team, so no character carries across seasons.

Any season can start viewing since casts reset, but release order shows the shift from body horror biology to FBI manhunt method. Season 1 explains Ebola spread with visual clarity, season 2 plays as a cat and mouse letter hunt. No third season has been ordered after 2021, so treat Anthrax as the current close.
