About The Prisoner
Number Six resigns from British intelligence, wakes in a coastal Village, and refuses to give his captors anything but defiance. The original starred and was co-created by Patrick McGoohan, filming 17 episodes between 1966 and 1968 at Portmeirion in Wales and MGM British Studios. It aired from September 1967 to February 1968 and closed with the debated finale Fall Out.
The 2009 version is a six-part miniseries co-produced by AMC and ITV, starring Jim Caviezel as Six and Ian McKellen as Two, shot in Namibia and South Africa. It keeps the Village, the numbers, and the resignation setup but tells a new story with new characters. The two versions share a premise, not a plot, so neither spoils the other beyond the concept.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing, because the 17 episode original tells one closed story and the 2009 miniseries restarts it from scratch. Treat them as separate continuities: the remake is a reworking, not a sequel, and characters do not carry over. Release order is recommended so the original's Cold War context lands before the remake's surveillance era update.
