About What We Do in the Shadows
Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's 2014 mockumentary follows vampire flatmates in Wellington. The FX series (2019 to 2024) resets with a new household on Staten Island: Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, Colin Robinson and their familiar Guillermo.
Release order works best: film first, then the series in airdate order. Wellington Paranormal (2018 to 2022) follows Officers Minogue and O'Leary from the film and can be watched any time after it. It premiered before the US series and ran alongside it.
Good to know
Continuity is loose by design. The US series uses a new cast and city, so the film vampires do not carry over beyond cameos. Wellington Paranormal is the direct film spinoff. Both shows have ended (Wellington Paranormal in 2022, the FX series with Season 6 in December 2024). No new Shadows entry had been announced as of 2026-09-17.
