About Yellowstone
Yellowstone follows the Dutton family defending their Montana ranch across five seasons (2018 to 2024). The prequels 1883 (one season, 2021 to 2022) and 1923 (two seasons, 2022 to 2025) trace earlier Dutton generations. The story continues in 2026 with two sequels: Marshals, with Kayce Dutton as a U.S. Marshal, and Dutton Ranch, with Beth and Rip building a new life in Texas.
Premiere order is the recommended first watch, because the prequels pay off names and places set up in the flagship show. The second list runs the same seasons by in-story date, starting with the 1883 trail west. The Madison, which premiered in March 2026, began as a Yellowstone sequel and now stands alone, so it sits at the end of both lists.
Good to know
1944 was announced in 2023 as the next prequel and was still reported in development in June 2026, with no cast or date. Creator Taylor Sheridan said in August 2026 that the planned 6666 ranch spinoff will not happen, so it is not listed. The Madison is included for completeness even though it is now a standalone series. Marshals season 2 and Dutton Ranch season 2 were both in the works as of August 2026.
