About Blue Exorcist
Blue Exorcist's canon path skips its own filler. Season 1 from 2011 opens canon through the Cram school arcs, then episodes 17 to 25 invent an anime-only ending to skip. Kyoto Saga in 2017 restarts faithfully from the manga's Impure King arc, Shimane Illuminati in 2024 continues through the festival and Illuminati stretch, and season 4 splits into Beyond the Snow plus Blue Night through 2025.
The 2012 film is a side story that fits anywhere after season 1's canon stretch. Canon order below is recommended: season 1 selects, then Kyoto onward straight through Blue Night. Release order drags the filler ending along, which later seasons ignore. The manga continues past all of it for readers.
Good to know
Follow canon order first: season 1 episodes 1 to 17, then Kyoto, Shimane, Beyond the Snow and Blue Night. The season 1 finale invents Satan's Gehenna gate assault that no later season references. Kyoto explicitly overwrites it by restarting from the manga, which is why filler must be dropped. The film never affects continuity and can go any time after the canon stretch.
