About Soul Eater

Soul Eater runs fifty-one episodes from 2008 to 2009 with Maka and Soul collecting souls toward the death scythe. The anime follows the manga through the mid-30s episodes, then diverges at the BREW battle into its own Asura ending, since the manga ran until 2013. Soul Eater NOT! from 2014 rewinds to new NOT-class students with the main cast cameoing in a lighter school story.

Watch the main series first, then NOT! as an optional extra. NOT! assumes Death City known and spoils nothing structurally, but its soft tone lands better after the main run's stakes. Readers wanting the true ending should pick the manga up around chapter 36, where the anime leaves it, through to the Kid-as-Shinigami finale.

Good to know

Release order is the whole guide: main series, then NOT!. The spinoff is a prequel in story but was made for viewers who know the academy, so watching it first wastes its cameos. The anime ending invents its Asura resolution while the manga continues through Spartoi and the Book of Eibon. No Brotherhood-style remake exists, so the manga remains the only canon continuation.
