About Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball has aired in Japan since February 1986 and split into five TV series: Dragon Ball with 153 episodes, Dragon Ball Z with 291, Dragon Ball GT with 64, Dragon Ball Super with 131 and Dragon Ball Daima with 20.
The order questions are real. Daima is set right after the Buu saga but arrived in 2024, Super is set years later but came first in 2015, and GT is an anime only sequel that Super contradicts outright. Battle of Gods and Resurrection F were both remade as Super episodes, so watching the films as well as the series covers the same ground twice.
Two projects land in 2026. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus premiered on October 11, 2026 on Fuji TV as Toei Animation's 70th anniversary project, an enhanced remake and remaster of Super's opening arc with a reconstructed narrative and redrawn scenes. Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol continues past the Universe Survival arc with no date set, adapting the Moro saga from the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Akira Toriyama's final work, Dragon Ball Daima, ran for 20 episodes and finished on February 28, 2025.
Good to know
Kai is the shorter route through Z at 167 episodes against 291, with the padded material cut. Skip GT on a first watch, since nothing in Super acknowledges it. Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which ran from 2018 to 2024, is a promotional anime tied to an arcade game and sits outside the main continuity. The seventeen films made between 1986 and 1996 are self contained side stories and are not required.
Beerus is an enhanced rebuild of the Super opening rather than a new story, so it is an alternative to the first stretch of Super rather than something to slot after it. Watch Super's own episodes 1 to 27 or the films, not both, and then decide whether the rebuild is worth revisiting.
