About Esper Mami
Esper Mami adapts Fujiko F. Fujio's manga across 119 TV episodes from April 1987 to October 1989, plus the 1988 theatrical film Hoshizora no Dancing Doll with a standalone doll case. Junior high student Mami uses teleportation and telekinesis to help classmates while hiding her powers from most adults and her strict father.
Broadcast order is the guide because the show is episodic with light continuity around Mami's friends and family. Watch the TV series straight through, and place the 1988 film after the early episodes as a standalone bonus. The film does not advance the TV plot, so it fits anywhere once you know the cast.
Good to know
With 119 episodes the TV run is long, so sampling the first dozen episodes tells you if the gentle episodic tone fits. The 1988 film runs 41 minutes and focuses on a dancing doll case that plays like an extended TV episode. Animation and tone stay consistent across the run because Shin-Ei produced both. No sequel or remake has been announced, and the 1989 finale closes Mami's school year stories.
