About Lensman
Lensman adapts E E Smith space opera about Kimball Kinnison and the Lens. The 1984 film Secret of the Lens from Madhouse condenses the war against Boskone into a feature chase. Galactic Patrol Lensman ran on TV from 1984 into 1985 with the same corps across 25 episodes.
The two share ideas and ships but tell separate cuts, so release order introduces the Lens rules before the longer patrol version expands them. The animation styles differ sharply between film and TV, with the feature carrying the higher budget dogfights.
Good to know
Watch the film, then the TV series. The plots do not lock as one timeline, so treat the series as a longer retelling rather than a sequel. Match by title, since reissues mix the names. No later anime continues this Smith thread, so the two entries below are the full screen set for Lensman fans everywhere.
