About Lucy

Nippon Animation aired Minami no Niji no Lucy in 1982 in the World Masterpiece Theater line, following Lucy-May Popple after her family sails for Australia. Early episodes cover the voyage out, the Adelaide farm start and the first run-ins with drought and dingoes. The middle stretch follows crop gambles, lost stock searches and kind neighbors bridging settlers and the bush.

The closing run pays off years of farm grit with new land and the family rooted at last, ending after 50 episodes. Hiroshi Saito directed with the wide outback detail the strand was known for. Watch episodes 1 through 50 in broadcast order, since each season, debt and rescue carries straight into the next.

Good to know

Watch all 50 episodes in broadcast order, since the farm builds, droughts and rescues stack step by step toward the rooted finale. The tale is original to the theater line rather than a book retelling, with extra settler arcs. No sequel connects to this version, making the 1982 run fully closed. Track Lucy, Arthur and the neighbors closely because their labor drives every harvest.
